NUMBERS

• 5,000 adoption orders were made in England, of which
  • 1,500 children were adopted by step parents
  • 3,500 were adopted from care
  • 47% were girls
  • 53% were boys

 WAITING

• The average waiting time for a child to find an adoptive home was 2 years 9 months
• The average wait for families to adopt was 1 year 8 months

AGES

• 6% were under a year old
• 62% were between 1 and 4 years old
• 32% were 5-15 years old

The majority of children being adopted are of school age ' are the schools prepared'
